Behind the Camera: The Other Job of Running CARAMEL CATTLE

Somewhere between choosing products and sharing them with the world, I acquired another job title: product photographer. The application process was brief. I own the business, so apparently I got the job.

Taking photos sounds simple until there’s a mug, a notebook, tea, a candle, and a puzzle on the table, and every one of them seems to have a different opinion about where it should sit. Move the candle left. Move it back. Straighten the notebook. Notice the pen has rolled away. Start again.

The camera doesn’t see what I see

In person, I can pick something up, feel its texture, and imagine the quiet moment it might become part of. In a photo, I have one frame to make that feeling come through. I want you to see more than a collection of objects. I want you to picture the pause: tea steeping, a candle nearby, a little time to yourself.

So I arrange, step back, take a photo, and look again. Sometimes a tiny adjustment makes everything click. Sometimes I realize the background has quietly become the star of the show. It’s humbling how much personality a stray corner of fabric can have.

Why I keep taking the photos

These photos help me show you what I’m excited about before you can hold it in your hands. They’re part of the storytelling at CARAMEL CATTLE, even when the behind-the-scenes version involves a table full of props and several almost-right shots.

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind a product post, this is some of it: trying to make a feeling visible, one rearranged mug at a time. And yes, I’ll probably move it again before the next photo.
